This Spring we hosted a workshop specifically geared towards changes in WIOA that would have an impact in the grant writing and the curriculum.
The language specifies that Civics, College Career Readiness Standards, Career Pathways and Employability skills has to be incorporated into the classroom instruction as well as job training. This is way we introduced IET and IELCE! (Acronyms!) We tried something different this workshop by breaking up into groups by your level of instruction. We had great discussions that we have put together and are below. I hope you enjoyed the workshop. We love presenting and getting input and seeing familiar faces. If you have a great idea for a keynote let us know! We are planning on several breakout sessions for the fall with lunch provided! We will have a webinar in May on Civics Integration. Hope to see you! On October 14, 2016, the ESL Professional Advisory Committee hosted our fall conference in East Lansing. It was an excellent turnout. What made it different was that we utilized the field for breakout sessions and did not have a keynote. The ESLPAC completed a strategic planning and is now a 501c3 and has a list of great plans to expand our support for the field to include more guidance in curriculum and access to more professional development. We would love to have you be a part of our committee. Just stop in to one of our meetings and participate and see if this is what you want to do! We have taken the evaluations and are reviewing it. We take it seriously because we want to provide you the best conference for your time and money. Below are the files for the handouts on the October workshop. Please save the date for our next conference on March 17, 2017! Digital Literacy: Presentation: http://tinyurl.com/jlut699 Resource Guide: http://tinyurl.com/j4mwcp9

The Commission on Adult Basic Education is organized to advance national and international adult education and literacy opportunities for all persons. The purposes of COABE are:
After attending many sessions and networking, every concern we have for our students is universal! We are all passionate about what we do and regardless if we live in California, Georgia, Rhode Island, Michigan, Mississippi or Florida, our students have the same barriers and needs! What is interesting is how states respond. We have a new state director in Michigan and we are looking for great leadership that will move us forward in CCRS, Career Pathways and the changes in WIOA. We are looking for professional development that supports the field in the new changes that will be coming in 2016-17! Have you been to any workshops or conferences that have made a difference in your teaching? |
